* Bromos is the Greek for oats ; Bromius is a common title of Dionysus, derived probably from bromos = noise. In purogenē, "wheat-born", there is a play on the similar word meaning " fire-born".

I was wrong in flying, and all in vain, from the shore, and deservedly was taken by the fisherman after I had deserted my hills. Never again, fishermen, shall your hands be unsuccessful, since you now knit webs that serve both for sea and land.

A hound was pressing hotly on a swift-footed hare that had just freed itself from the toils of the net. The poor hare was evidently destined to be dog's meat.
