progress in the spring, that though the weekly num-
bers did not rise high, and it appeared to be only in
the outskirts of the town, and in the most obscure
alleys, amongst the poorest people ; yet the ancient
men, who well remembered in what manner the last
great plague (which had been near forty years be-
fore) first brake out, and the progress it afterwards
made, foretold a terrible summer.
